Book Cover Design – *Between Two Kingdoms*
For my book cover design of Between Two Kingdoms by Suleika Jaouad, I wanted to represent the emotional journey between illness and healing. I combined a high-resolution photograph of a hospital room window with an image of a woman preparing to embark on a journey, symbolizing the shift from confinement to freedom.
Using Gimp, I applied layer masks to blend the two images seamlessly, then adjusted hue and saturation to create a palette that moves from cool blues to warm golds—mirroring the memoir’s themes of transformation. The title text was added in white using a bold typeface with a soft drop shadow for readability. Overall, my design conveys both fragility and renewal, reflecting the spirit of Jaouad’s story.
Personal Logo Design
For my personal logo, I designed a circular emblem that blends themes of care, growth, and continuity—capturing my dual identity as a pediatric physician and creative professional. The centerpiece is a stylized stethoscope shaped into a heart, with a sprout growing from its base to symbolize healing and development.
The teal and coral color palette represents professionalism paired with warmth, while a thin gold arc signifies hope and new beginnings. I created all components as vector paths in Inkscape, using gradients and subtle transparency for depth. The clean typography reinforces balance and clarity, reflecting my commitment to empathy-driven medicine.
Pediatric Milestones Drag-and-Drop Quiz
This was my first experience with coding, and although intimidating at first, it quickly became fun and creative. I designed a lighthearted drag-and-drop quiz to test knowledge of pediatric developmental milestones based on age. I hosted it using Neocities, a simple and free website hosting service.

Animation Video – "That's Nuts: What Happens During Anaphylaxis"
I created a short animation video in Canva explaining the physiology of anaphylaxis in a fun, visual way. I used a pink background to mimic internal anatomy, added vector images, created movement pathways, included breathing and fading effects, and recorded the voiceover directly through Canva.

Screen Recording – Epic Login and Basics
Using Canva’s desktop screen‑recording tool, I created a short tutorial for incoming residents on how to log into our electronic medical record in the emergency department. I filmed the process within our HIPAA‑compliant Epic Playground environment and added on‑screen labels, arrows, and transitions.
Descript + Canva Video Editing Reflection
For this project, I explored Descript's AI-powered video editing tools along with Canva's design features. Descript made it easy to edit by modifying the transcript, removing filler words, and smoothing pacing, while Canva allowed me to create clean, consistent visuals and simple animations. Together, these tools transformed my workflow and made educational media creation more approachable and enjoyable.
